Description

The candidate will work in the field of Old Testament, in which he/she is a specialist. Expertise in historical and

critical exegesis as well as hermeneutics of the Old Testament is essential. A strong knowledge of the different

texts of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, as well as the history and culture of ancient Israel and Judaism are

required. The candidate must be able to lead a research team and work collaboratively with members of the

Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies (FTSR) at the University of Lausanne as well as its Institut romand

des sciences bibliques (IRSB), of which he/she is a member, and with members of the Faculty of Humanities

at the University of Geneva.

Teaching: a minimum of 6 hours of teaching per week for the BA and MA programs, including lectures and

seminars, in person and remotely. Teaching takes place primarily at the University of Geneva campus, but also

at the University of Lausanne. In addition, the candidate will teach advanced training courses (doctoral

programs, CUSO) and may, if necessary, participate in or lead a continuing education program. Since the

language for most courses is French, this language is required right from the start. The ability to eventually

teach in English is indispensable.

Research: the candidate demonstrates a track record of research excellence in the field of the position,

confirmed by scientific publications and original projects. The candidate will develop research projects in

collaboration with local, national (FNS) and international academic research institutions.

Public service: the candidate will be involved in civil society: ecclesial circles, media, conferences, committees.

Administrative duties: the candidate will be required to perform administrative tasks within the Faculty and

University bodies.

Requirements

Title and professional experience required : Doctorate (PhD) in Theology or equivalent. University teaching

and research experience in the field of the position.

Languages : Excellent command of French (working language). Very good knowledge of English and

German. Excellent command of Biblical Hebrew and good knowledge of Septuagint Greek. Knowledge of

other ancient Near Eastern languages is an asset (Aramaic, Ugaritic, etc.).
