Description
This isn't just a senior engineering role — it's a chance to shape an entire discipline at a firm that's been on an uninterrupted growth trajectory for over three decades. With offices across seven major US cities and a reputation for award-winning work across commercial, healthcare, education, and government sectors, this practice offers the kind of platform where a Director of Electrical Engineering can genuinely leave their mark. If you're a PE-licensed engineer with the technical depth to serve as Engineer of Record and the leadership instincts to build and grow a team, this is the role you've been waiting for.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the electrical engineering department — staffing, structure, succession planning, and setting the standards everyone else works to.
- Serve as Engineer of Record on complex electrical projects across commercial, institutional, healthcare, higher education, and government facilities.
- Design and document power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, emergency power, and critical systems from concept through construction.
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic goals for the discipline and represent the practice in client meetings and industry events.
- Coordinate across architecture and MEP teams throughout design development, resolving complex technical challenges as they arise.
- Oversee project delivery across multiple market sectors, ensuring electrical scopes land on time and within budget.
- Support business development — proposals, pursuits, and identifying new market opportunities and service offerings.
Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including leadership roles.
- Active PE license in Maryland, Virginia, and/or Washington DC.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IECC, ASHRAE, and local jurisdictional codes.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical calculation tools; experience coordinating within BIM and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and influence at the executive level.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Culture & Benefits
- 100% employee-owned firm — you're not just working here, you have a stake in the place.
- Salary range $150,000–$200,000, with a generous 401(k)/Roth contribution and flexible spending benefits.
- Fully paid medical and long-term disability coverage, plus dental, vision, and supplemental insurance plans.
- Professional development reimbursement including fees, study time, lunch and learns, CEUs, and leadership training.
- Hybrid working from the Washington DC office (2 days/week in the office), with a genuine commitment to work-life balance baked into the culture.
