Description
PERSONAL INJURY PARALEGAL (full-time) for a law office in Pikesville, MD. Duties: Prepare affidavits, medical record summaries, deposition digests, and case chronologies; Draft, edit, review, and process legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, appeals, and other correspondence; Work with attorney to negotiate and discharge medical liens; Investigate facts and law of cases and search pertinent sources, such as public records and internet sources, to determine causes of action and to prepare cases; Complete risk assessment of each case based on an analysis of regulatory compliance, available law, and client documentation; Prepare for trial and filings by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits; Meet with clients and other professionals to discuss details of cases; Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents; Direct and coordinate delivery of subpoenas and calling upon witnesses to testify at hearings, as necessary; Manage multiple records and case files, both physically and electronically, utilizing software and internal systems to maintain organization and confidentiality; Conduct discovery and organize documents and files for later trial preparation; Request, review, and summarize relevant records for cases, including insurance coverage policies, insurance reports, medical bills, and billing guidelines; Screen incoming potential new clients to determine if there is a strong liability and injury case; Complete the work of signing/retaining a client and concluding their intake process by collecting pertinent information; Report cases to insurance companies and activate PIP benefits for each client as necessary; Set up medical treatment(s) for clients and monitor the treatment, ensuring that all medical records are collected and accounted for during or at the conclusion of treatment; Perform follow-up with clients and report delays/issues to a supervisor for timely resolution; Complete final file review to pass cases to a Negotiator at the conclusion of each client’s medical treatment, after medical records are obtained; Assist the Negotiator in preparing demand and property injury documents to obtain settlements; Track court deadlines and ensure compliance with scheduling orders and procedural rules. Requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Law, Legal Studies, or similar (Foreign Equivalent accepted); Minimum of 12 (twelve) months related work experience as a paralegal, docket specialist, legal clerk, or similar; Maintain an attitude of professionalism and flexibility while managing shifting priorities and a high case volume; Must be an excellent writer with an attention to both detail and accuracy; Proficient in the following software and systems: FileVine (legal practice management software), Workers’ Comp Hub MD (state workers’ compensation portal); MDEC System (state court system portal), Internal Medical Records Management and Billing Portals (but specifically: Chart Request; MediCopy; ScanStat; Patient First; Sharecare Health Data), Microsoft Office Suite; Experienced in retrieving, reviewing, interpreting and summarizing medical records and bills to facilitate accurate case development and settlement preparation; Experienced in operating standard office equipment, including scanners, printers, and multifunctional copiers; Be a strong communicator, preferably with experience liaising between government agencies, legal professionals, clients, and the public; Keep a regular schedule of duties to ensure that all duties are attended to over a 40-hour work week, utilizing time-management and appropriate prioritization skills; Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
