- Postdoctoral/Scientist in MS-Omics
Description
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow/scientist in mass spectrometry-based omics (proteomics or lipidomics) for interdisciplinary biomedical research at the University of Maryland-College Park.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will spearhead exciting research projects via mass spectrometry-based omics methods (for example proteomics, lipidomics, proximity labeling, protein turnover, protein interaction, metabolomics etc.) to study neurobiology, discover disease biomarkers, and understand molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will lead an effort in method development, sample preparation, LC-MS analysis, bioinformatics, and manuscript writing.
Opportunities:
The successful candidate will have access to cutting-edge omics technology and LC-MS instruments (Thermo Fisher Astro MS, Exploris MS, Vanquish Flex HPLC, Vanquish Neo nanoLC) as well as advanced stem cell-derived neuron technology, with exciting opportunities to publish papers, present at conferences, and broaden research experience in collaborative research projects. The postdoc/scientist will receive mentorship directly from the PI about designing and executing research projects, scientific writing, presentation, and professional development to better prepare for their future career in either academia or industry.
Location:
The research group is located in the brand new Chemistry&Biochemistry research building (opened in 2024) on the University of Maryland-College Park campus. College Park is adjacent to the nation’s capital (Washington D.C) to visit the Smithsonian Museums, Capital Hill, White House, Kennedy Center, etc. The DC-Maryland-Virginia area is a top five hub of biomedical and biotechnology nationally with many job opportunities in biotech companies, government labs, and hospitals (AstraZeneca, GSK, Novavax, NIH, FDA, NIST, NASA, EPA, HHMI, Children’s National Hospital).
Requirements:
Postdoc candidates should possess a Ph.D (within the last 5 years) in the field of chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or relevant majors with a good publication record (at least 2 first-author publications). Scientist candidate will be evaluated based on stronger publication record and past years’ experience. Prior knowledge and research experience in omics sample preparation, mass spectrometry operation, and data analysis are required. Experience in multi-omics is a plus.
